Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney Eyed to Lead New ‘Running Man’ Remake

Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney are reportedly set to reunite on screen after their successful rom-com collaboration in ‘Anyone But You.’ The duo, who impressed audiences with their chemistry, might now be leading Edgar Wright’s upcoming remake of ‘Running Man.’ While Powell has been linked to the project for a while, it seems Sweeney might also join him in this thrilling venture.

The original ‘Running Man,’ directed by Paul Michael Glaser, starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as Ben Richards. The film, based on Stephen King’s novel, depicts a dystopian future where a game show forces convicts to battle for their lives against professional killers.

Reports suggest that Sweeney’s schedule aligns perfectly with the film’s shooting dates. She is currently busy filming a biopic about Christy Martin, set to wrap up next month. Filming for ‘Running Man’ isn’t slated to start until late October. Additionally, Sweeney’s other project, the third season of ‘Euphoria,’ won’t begin production until January 2025.

Sweeney and Powell’s last film, ‘Anyone But You,’ was a box office hit, charming audiences with its tale of fake dating turning into true love. This film not only revived the rom-com genre reminiscent of the early 2000s but also boosted their careers significantly.

In ‘Running Man,’ the original film’s plot was set in a dystopian America where a falsely convicted policeman participates in a deadly TV game show. The participants, known as runners, must survive against hitmen to win their freedom. Edgar Wright’s remake is highly anticipated, although the plot and full cast details remain under wraps.

Powell, however, is enthusiastic about the project. In a recent conversation with IndieWire, he shared his excitement, saying, “We’ve been going back and forth on script stuff, and it’s so fun. The world that Edgar’s developed on this thing is just outrageous.” He added, “It’s so good. And really, we’re just both such big fans of the Stephen King book, and it’s going to be a great character. I’m so fired up about it.”
