Glen Powell Shares Exciting Update On New ‘The Running Man’ Remake

Glen Powell, known for his roles in hits like ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and ‘Anyone But You,’ has dropped exciting details about the much-anticipated remake of ‘The Running Man,’ directed by Edgar Wright. During promotions for his latest film ‘Twisters,’ Powell disclosed that filming for the dystopian action thriller will kick off in London this autumn. Wright, renowned for his distinctive filmmaking style, aims to bring Stephen King’s novel to life more faithfully than its previous adaptation.

In a candid interview with IndieWire, Powell shared insights into his upcoming projects, including juggling filming commitments with completing his degree. “I’m going to be shooting ‘The Running Man’ in the fall. So I’m going to be in London, but I am going to be going back for proctored exams,” he explained. This dual focus underscores Powell’s dedication both to his career and education.

Wright’s version of ‘The Running Man’ promises a departure from Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 1987 film, which strayed significantly from King’s original narrative. Speaking on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast, Wright expressed his admiration for King’s novel, noting that previous adaptations had not fully captured its essence. “I like the film but I like the book more, and they didn’t really adapt the book,” he remarked, emphasizing his commitment to honouring the source material.

With production set to commence later this year, fans can anticipate a fresh take on King’s dystopian vision, slated for release in 2025. Powell’s involvement in this ambitious project adds to his burgeoning career, which includes recent successes like Netflix’s ‘Hitman’ and the romantic comedy ‘Anyone But You.’
