Katie Leung is in no rush to head back to the Wizarding World. The actress, who gained global fame playing Cho Chang in the 'Harry Potter' series, recently opened up about why she prefers her current life over her time at Hogwarts.

Now a star on 'Bridgerton,' Leung explained that she was very young when she first started filming and struggled with how much she was influenced by public opinion. Because she didn't have a strong sense of her own identity back then, she found the spotlight difficult to navigate. Today, she feels she has a much healthier focus on her craft and is thrilled to be where she is now.

Katie Leung clarified that her reluctance to go back isn't because she had a bad experience, but rather because she values the self-awareness she has gained as an adult. She noted that while she is still figuring things out, she feels much closer to knowing who she truly is compared to her teenage years.

Reflecting on a Difficult Spotlight

Leung's journey began in 2005 with 'The Goblet of Fire,' and she appeared in every subsequent film through the finale in 2011. While she enjoyed the excitement of filming as an escape from school, the fame came with a dark side.

In recent interviews, she discussed the challenges of being in the public eye while already feeling insecure as a teenager. She admitted to Googling herself out of curiosity, which led her to discover hurtful racist comments online. Katie Leung believes that experience made her more guarded and less outgoing, as she became hyper-aware of everything she said and did to avoid further criticism.

Passing the Torch

As HBO prepares for its new 'Harry Potter' television reboot, Katie Leung has some grounded advice for the next person to play Cho Chang. She suggests that the new cast members should focus on being themselves and trust that their unique qualities are a gift. Most importantly, she hopes they can block out the outside noise and stay true to who they are.

As for Leung, she is looking forward to the future. She recently joined the fourth season of 'Bridgerton' as Lady Araminta Gun, a role that allows her to enjoy the prestige of a major production with a much more grounded perspective on her life and career.
