Has the ‘Fletch’ Curse Hit Jon Hamm’s Sequel?
When ‘Confess, Fletch’ debuted in 2022, it seemed like the ‘Fletch’ franchise was making a comeback. Director Greg Mottola and lead actor Jon Hamm were optimistic about the future of the series. However, recent updates have dashed those hopes. Mottola recently shared on X/Twitter that the sequel, ‘Fletch’s Fortune’, is no longer moving forward at Miramax.
The sequel was set to follow investigative reporter Fletch, played by Hamm, as he goes undercover at an FBI conference. Mottola had already started working on the script, based on the novel that inspired the franchise.

Despite his efforts, the project was halted when Miramax’s new head decided against it. Mottola expressed disappointment, noting that feature comedies are struggling and that the decision reflects a broader issue with the genre’s visibility.
Another factor contributing to the sequel’s cancellation was the financial performance of the first film, which had a $20 million budget but didn’t recoup that amount at the box office. Mottola hinted at additional reasons but remained hopeful that another studio or streaming service might revive the project. For now, fans are left to lament the end of the franchise and hope for a future revival.
