Here’s What Saoirse Ronan Was Supposed to Play in The ‘Barbie’ Movie

Saoirse Ronan has finally revealed the role she had in the pipeline for the ‘Barbie’ movie. The cinematic take on the beloved toy franchise, which hit the screens last year, received a standing ovation from audiences and turned out to be the top-grossing film of the year.

Ronan, who had previously collaborated with ‘Barbie’ director Greta Gerwig in the acclaimed films ‘Little Women’ and ‘Lady Bird,’ addressed Timothée Chalamet’s recent revelation about their planned cameos in the movie. It turns out Ronan was all set to portray a character she aptly described as a Weird Barbie, sharing the screen with the talented Kate McKinnon.

Reflecting on the missed opportunity, Ronan remarked, “I don’t know what he was going to be, but I was definitely going to be a Weird Barbie. I don’t know how to take that. I would have been with Kate McKinnon, so that would have been nice. I had a scene but didn’t ever get to do it, and it wasn’t in the movie.”

Elaborating on her envisioned role, Ronan playfully shared, “I think I’d be the strange girl who talked to herself and always had her pet dog with her and always talked to the dog and wouldn’t look at anyone.”

Even the costume designer, Jacqueline Durran, had a humourous take on Ronan’s part, revealing, “Oh, obviously you are going to be a really weird Barbie, Saoirse.”

Chalamet, who also missed out on his cameo, teased about his intended role on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,’ saying, “I don’t know what the cameo would’ve been. I think it would’ve been one of the rejected Kens or Barbies. Not Alan! Maybe there was a reject French one along the way.”
