The world of 'Game of Thrones' is officially making the jump to movie theatres. Based on the famous fantasy novels by George R. R. Martin, the original series became a global hit during its eight-season run, telling the story of the brutal power struggles in Westeros.

Since that show ended in 2019, the franchise has grown with spin-offs like 'House of the Dragon' and the upcoming 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.' There is even a stage play in the works, but this new film will take the universe to a whole different level.

Reports from Variety indicate that Beau Willimon is the person leading the project. He has a strong track record as the creator of 'House of Cards' and a writer for the Star Wars hit 'Andor.' While details are still being kept quiet, the story is expected to follow Aegon the Conqueror, the legendary Targaryen leader who took over Westeros and started the family dynasty centuries before the original show began.

There is some uncertainty about the 'Game of Thrones' movie's future, though. Warner Bros., the studio that owns the series, is currently being acquired by Paramount Skydance. If the government approves this merger, the new owners will have the power to cancel any projects currently in development.

However, because the franchise is so popular, most experts believe the new leadership will want to keep making Thrones content to capitalise on its massive success.

In the meantime, fans have plenty to look forward to. A third season of 'House of the Dragon' is coming this June, and a new trailer was recently released. On the other hand, some original cast members are keeping their distance. Sophie Turner recently shared that she won't be watching any of the new spin-offs, explaining that even hearing the show's theme song gives her an intense feeling of anxiety.
