‘House of The Dragon’ Season 2 Showrunner Gives Update on “Lurking” Series Finale
The ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel series, ‘House of the Dragon’, premiered its first season to immense success, quickly becoming one of HBO’s most-watched original series with over 10 million views. The eagerly anticipated second season is set to premiere soon, and ahead of its release, showrunner Ryan Condal has shared his thoughts on the challenges of concluding the series.
In an interview, Condal expressed his apprehensions about the show’s ending, acknowledging that “sticking the landing is actually the most difficult thing.” Although he is not focusing on the distant future just yet, he noted that by the time the series concludes, “many years down the road,” everyone will have their own expectations of how it should end.

Condal discussed the ongoing process of writing and producing the second season, explaining that this has provided him with some clarity on where and when the show should find its conclusion. He emphasised that the goal is not to end Targaryen’s history but to identify the right moment to close the curtain on this particular chapter of their story. He reiterated that the Targaryen legacy continues for decades beyond the timeframe of the series, making it crucial to pinpoint the best place for the show’s narrative to end.
Despite the challenges, Condal and his team are committed to delivering a “satisfying television ending” that signifies the continuation of time beyond the show’s conclusion. He mentioned that while the story is being brought to a close, the exact number of seasons or episodes remaining is still undetermined. However, the progress in the timeline has made it increasingly clear where the story needs to go.
Condal also highlighted that having the source material, George R.R. Martin’s book provides a solid foundation for the series’ direction. This gives the team the necessary material to work towards a satisfying conclusion for the audience. He remains optimistic that they can achieve an ending that resonates well with viewers and does justice to the epic saga of House Targaryen.
