Is ‘The Widower’ Series Based on True Events? Discover The Real Story Behind The Show

One of the most spine-chilling thriller series aired on ITV, ‘The Widower’ is a British mini-TV series that portrays the life and heinous acts of Malcolm Webster. The series delves into 13 years of Webster's criminal behaviour, including poisoning his wife and ultimately killing her, as well as the devastating impact on two other women.

The detailed depiction of the second wife Felicity Drumm, ex-partner Simone Banerjee, and detective Charlie Henry's contributions underscore that this series is based on real-life events.

The series depicts Malcolm Webster, a seemingly mild-mannered nurse, who manipulated and defrauded his wives in cruel ways.

It illustrates how he staged his first wife's death to claim a substantial life insurance payout, which he used to start a new life in New Zealand with his second wife, Felicity Drumm. Webster's criminal actions escalated after the death of his first wife, Claire Morris.

Reece Shearsmith, who portrays Malcolm Webster, delivers a performance so accurate that Simone Banerjee claimed it was "99% accurate." The series integrates interviews with Simone and Felicity, adding depth to the storyline and ensuring authenticity. It also includes real footage, such as Webster’s inaugural wedding, to enhance the series' realism.

Kate Fleetwood plays Felicity Drumm, Webster's second wife, while James Laurenson portrays her father, Brian Drumm, who plays a crucial role in revealing Webster’s true nature. Federay Holmes appears as Felicity’s sister, Jane Drumm.
