Jack Black is reflecting on a movie role he wishes he had accepted.
The 56-year-old actor recently shared that the role he most regrets turning down was the villain Syndrome in Pixar's hit film 'The Incredibles.' He explained that talking about missed roles can feel awkward because it might sound like the actor who got the part was a backup choice, but he decided to be honest anyway.
Why Jack Black Rejected The Role?
Black revealed that he was originally offered the role but chose to say no. At the time, he wasn't familiar with director Brad Bird and felt the character seemed too one-dimensional. He even suggested that the role needed more depth, which ultimately ended the discussion.

The decision didn't age well. 'The Incredibles' went on to become a massive success, earning over $630 million worldwide and widespread praise from critics and fans. The film later spawned a successful sequel in 2018, with another instalment currently in development.
Looking back, Jack Black admitted he learned an important lesson. When he finally saw the finished movie, he realised it was one of the best animated films ever made and wondered why he had been so difficult about the role.
Jack Black's Career
Despite passing on 'The Incredibles,' Black's career continued to thrive. Around the same time, he starred in 'School of Rock' and later appeared in films such as 'Shark Tale,' 'King Kong,' 'Nacho Libre,' and 'The Holiday.' He also became the face of the 'Kung Fu Panda' franchise and voiced Bowser in 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie,' a role he is set to reprise in 'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie' in 2025.

Jack Black was recently praised by longtime collaborator Paul Rudd, who spoke warmly about working with him on their new film 'Anaconda.' Rudd described Black as a personal hero and highlighted his kindness and generosity on set, especially when interacting with fans and children. While the two actors had appeared in the same films before, 'Anaconda' marked their first time working together closely.
Rudd noted that watching Jack Black in action was impressive, adding that his talent is matched by his genuine warmth, which leaves a lasting impression on everyone he meets.
