Jake Gyllenhaal Cut His Hand on ‘Road House’ Set: “I Felt The Glass go Into my Hand”

Jake Gyllenhaal encountered a setback during the filming of ‘Road House,’ a remake of the 1989 classic starring Patrick Swayze. Directed by Doug Liman, the movie is slated for release on the 21st of March and boasts a cast including Daniela Melchior, Lukas Gage and boxer Conor McGregor in his feature film debut.

Speaking on ‘Armchair Expert With Dax,’ Gyllenhaal recounted an incident where he injured his hand while filming a fight scene for the movie, which ultimately led to serious health issues. Describing the scene, he said, “We’re fighting on the floor, we’re fighting around tables. We’re fighting around glass, even if it’s breakaway glass. I put my hand on the bar, fucking straight glass.”

Despite the injury, Gyllenhaal felt the take was good and decided to continue filming. He recalled, “But the take, I knew, was good, because we were cutting right before, and they didn’t cut. So I was like around the bar, like ‘We’re not doing it again.’”

Detailing the aftermath, he said, “I felt the glass go into my hand,” which ultimately led to a staph infection. Symptoms of a staph skin infection include hot, swollen skin, sores, blisters and painful lumps.

Gyllenhaal noted that such injuries were common on set, but he was vigilant about taking care of himself. “There were things like that that happened all the time,” he explained. “But gratefully I was really, really trying to take care of everything that we did and my body while we’re doing it.”

Despite the challenges, Gyllenhaal praised the team he worked with and expressed gratitude for avoiding major injuries.

‘Road House’ premiered on 8th March and will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video starting 21st March.
