James Gunn Reveals Latest Details on ‘Superman: Legacy’
James Gunn recently provided an update on the upcoming DC movie, ‘Superman: Legacy,’ which he is directing. The film is set to kick off DC’s new cinematic universe, led by James Gunn and Peter Safran, co-CEO of DC Studios. Gunn shared a sneak peek through a storyboard shot on Threads, mentioning that he often sketches scenes and storyboards for ‘Superman: Legacy.’
The director clarified that it might not be a spoiler, as he frequently engages in this creative process. Gunn also shared insights into the progress of Superman’s costume and the film’s musical score, mentioning that while the costume is mostly complete, they are fine-tuning certain elements. Regarding the music score, Gunn revealed that a significant portion, if not most, of the major themes have already been composed.
The writer/director recently responded to claims that his upcoming Superman reboot would feature a “large cast” with numerous cameos, including characters like Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), Hawkgirl (Isabel Merced), Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), and the potential inclusion of Jason Momoa as Lobo.
Gunn clarified that the film isn’t intended to have a “large” cast, at least not in terms of the main characters. He explained that it’s typical for single-protagonist films to involve additional characters and less common for them not to. Gunn emphasized that the mentioned roles in ‘Superman: Legacy’ are not cameos.
Earlier in the summer, it was officially announced that David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan had been cast in the lead roles of Superman and Lois Lane, respectively.
According to reports, Corenswet and Brosnahan were chosen after screen tests involving six actors in June. Among the contenders for Superman were Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney, while Lois Lane had Emma Mackey and Phoebe Dynevor in consideration.
The anticipated release date for ‘Superman: Legacy’ is 11th July, 2025.
