'The Gates'—A Dark, Twisting Final Performance

The first trailer for the thriller 'The Gates,' which stars Van Der Beek in one of his most terrifying roles to date, was released by Lionsgate just one week after his death. He plays Jacob in the teaser, a charismatic but sinister pastor whose control over a gated enclave turns lethal when three young men cross paths with him.

The plot centers around three college students—played by Mason Gooding, Algee Smith, and Keith Powers—who make a fateful decision to take a shortcut through an isolated gated neighborhood on a night out.

'The Gates,' which is directed by John Burr and produced by Gary Glushon, Ross Kohn, and Nancy Leopardi, marks a bold final chapter to Van Der Beek's filmography and offers viewers a potent final look at a multifaceted actor who isn't scared to take on challenging roles.
