Jason Kelce Reflects on The Significance of The Tank Worn During NFL Retirement Speech

Jason Kelce candidly shared the rationale behind his laid-back attire for his NFL retirement announcement on his ‘New Heights’ podcast with brother Travis Kelce. In the latest episode, the former Philadelphia Eagles centre explained why he opted for a cut-up muscle tank featuring the Eagles logo during the press conference.

As the duo discussed the outfit choice, Jason reflected on the initial decision-making process for the day. Considering the common choice of suits and ties for such occasions, he expressed that it didn’t feel right for him. Travis chimed in, recalling the rare occasions he has seen Jason in a suit and tie, particularly during weddings.

Jason admitted, “I’ll wear a suit and tie when I have to, that’s about it.” Exploring his wardrobe options, including Cleveland Heights or Eagles shirts, Jason stumbled upon the winning choice in one of his drawers. The selected shirt had been a constant companion throughout his career, worn during practices and weightlifting sessions.

In an emotional connection to his 13-season journey, Jason revealed, “You know what, this shirt, in some ways, was a part of this journey with me. More than anything else in this closet. So I’ll wear this.”

Aside from paying tribute to his career through the shirt, Jason shared another poignant moment involving his trainer, Joe O’Pella, who battled cancer throughout the season. Despite being in remission with no signs of cancer, O’Pella couldn’t tape Jason’s ankles for games this year.

However, for the retirement press conference, he taped Jason’s ankles one last time, creating a meaningful closure to this chapter of Jason Kelce’s NFL journey. Summing up the unique attire choice, Jason concluded, “So I had ankle tape on with sandals. So yeah, that was what went into, I guess the attire.”
