Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista to Team Up in New Buddy Comedy

After successful collaborations in ‘Dune’ and ‘See’, Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista are reuniting for the buddy comedy ‘The Wrecking Crew’. Bautista originally pitched the idea in a 2021 tweet before Amazon MGM joined the project. Directed by Blue Beetle’s Ángel Manuel Soto, the film faced delays due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. However, The Wrap reports that Danish actor Claes Bang has been cast as the antagonist.

Bautista described the plot as “a Lethal Weapon-type buddy cop movie,” and the official synopsis reveals that ‘The Wrecking Crew’ follows two half-brothers — a loose cannon cop (Momoa) and a disciplined Navy SEAL (Bautista) — who must work together to solve their father’s murder in Hawaii. Soto, known for his work on Blue Beetle, will make his action comedy directorial debut.

Bang, who will play the villain, joins Momoa and Bautista, reuniting them with Banshee creator Jonathan Tropper, who wrote the script before the WGA strike. ‘The Wrecking Crew’ is produced by Lynn Harris, Matt Reeves, Bautista, Momoa, and Jeffrey Fierson. Bang’s upcoming projects include ‘Bonjour Tristesse’ at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, the period piece ‘Stockholm Bloodbath’, and the Russian fantasy drama ‘The Master and Margarita’.

He will also star in the epic thriller ‘William Tell’ and the biographical series ‘The New Look’ on Apple TV+, as well as the crime thriller comedy series ‘The Outlaws’ on Prime Video.
