Jason Momoa to Star in 'Helldivers' Movie Adaptation

Jason Momoa is diving straight back into full-on action hero territory. The larger-than-life star has officially signed up to lead the big-screen version of 'Helldivers,' the explosive sci-fi franchise created by Arrowhead Game Studios.

The movie is coming together under PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures, with high-octane filmmaker Justin Lin calling the shots. Mark your calendars—the intergalactic chaos is set to blast into theatres on 10th November, 2027.

The original 'Helldivers' game launched in 2015, but it was 'Helldivers 2' that truly exploded in popularity. Released in 2024, the sequel sold more than 12 million copies across PS5 and PC within just four months. The game has since expanded to Xbox and continues to draw strong numbers.

What is 'Helldivers' About?

The story of 'Helldivers 2' follows an elite squad of soldiers known as Helldivers, who fight off deadly alien forces threatening the fictional planet Super Earth. Expect plenty of large-scale battles, explosive action, and over-the-top sci-fi chaos when it makes the jump to theatres.

Producing the film are Hutch Parker, along with PlayStation Productions' Asad Qizilbash and Justin Lin through his Perfect Storm Entertainment banner.

Sony and PlayStation Productions have already found success adapting games for the screen. Their past projects include 'Uncharted' starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, the Peacock series 'Twisted Metal,' and HBO's award-winning 'The Last of Us.'

Jason Momoa's Packed Schedule

Jason Momoa's schedule is packed. He is set to play the intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo in 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,' arriving on 26th June. He currently stars alongside Dave Bautista in 'The Wrecking Crew' for Prime Video and will appear opposite Ryan Reynolds in the upcoming hybrid animated film 'Animal Friends.' He is also stepping into the role of Blanka in 'Street Fighter' and returning as Duncan Idaho in 'Dune: Part Three.'

Fans also know Jason Momoa for playing Aquaman in the DC universe and Khal Drogo in 'Game of Thrones.' Most recently, he starred in and co-created the Apple TV+ limited series 'Chief of War.'

As of now, 'Helldivers' is the only major studio release scheduled for 10th November, 2027, giving the action epic a clear runway at the box office.
