JAY-Z Criticizes The Grammys For Overlooking Beyoncé in Best Album Category

Jay-Z made waves at the 2024 Grammys when he used his acceptance speech for the 2nd annual Dr. Dre Global Impact Award to call out the Grammy organization. The hip-hop legend, 54, questioned the process behind voted categories and urged them to “get it right.”
Without mentioning her name, Jay-Z seemed to be referring to his wife, Beyoncé, who, despite having more Grammys than anyone, has never won ‘Album of the Year.’

Jay-Z expressed that some artists might feel robbed, others don’t belong in a category and he emphasized the importance of truth. These remarks echoed his sentiments from the previous year’s Grammys, where he called for the awards to “get it right.” He also encouraged everyone to keep showing up in life, alluding to the desire for deserved recognition.
The cameras captured Beyoncé applauding as Jay-Z concluded his speech. The music icon, known for albums like ‘Reasonable Doubt,’ ‘The Blueprint,’ and ‘4:44,’ has been vocal about giving back to his culture, stating that his satisfaction comes from being a beacon and helping people of colour. Jay-Z’s journey has evolved, and he now finds joy in using his platform for initiatives like Reform.

In 2023, Dr. Dre got his hands on this award for the first time. He was all about inspiring the next wave of producers, artists and entrepreneurs. In his acceptance speech, Dr. Dre emphasized the importance of never compromising your vision. He encouraged everyone to prioritize quality over quantity, emphasizing that everything holds significance. According to him, “Everything is important” is one of his mottos.
The Global Impact tribute wasn’t just for Dr. Dre. It also shone a spotlight on other music heavyweights like Missy Elliott, Lil Wayne, and music executive Sylvia Rhone, recognizing their significant contributions to the industry.
