Jenna Ortega Says ‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Will Have “More Horror”

Jenna Ortega revealed what’s in store for the second season of the Netflix series, ‘Wednesday.’ The show, born from ‘The Addams Family’ universe, took the streaming platform by storm in 2022, snagging the title of the most-watched series.

Chatting with E! on the red carpet during the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards, the 21-year-old actress shared the inside scoop. She happily announced, “I’ve got my hands on some scripts for the second season,” and hinted at a dose of excitement awaiting the eager fans. Production gears are set to start rolling come spring.

The first season focused on the enigmatic Wednesday Addams, portraying her serious and mysterious side. But hold on to your seats because season two is cranking up the horror factor. Jenna said, “We’re definitely leaning into a little bit more horror.” The excitement bubbled up as she added, “It’s really, really exciting because, all throughout the show, while ‘Wednesday’ does need a little bit of an arc, she never really changes, and that’s the wonderful thing about her.”

As for what’s in store, Jenna teased, “There’s really, really good one-liners, and I think everything’s bigger. It’s a lot more action-packed. Each episode will probably feel a little bit more like a movie, which is nice.” Brace yourselves for a rollercoaster of thrills and chills.

But wait, there’s more. Jenna dished out some exclusives to Variety last year, spilling the tea on ditching romantic entanglements for ‘Wednesday’ in the upcoming season. “We’re ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday, which is really great,” she shared. It seems the creators are steering clear of the lovey-dovey plotlines, opting for a fresh and intriguing approach.

And about those horror themes? Jenna elaborated, “Because it is so lighthearted, and a show like this with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take yourself too seriously.” So get ready for a wickedly delightful blend of horror and humour in Wednesday’s second act.
