Jennifer Lawrence Takes on New A24 Project, ‘Why Don’t You Love Me?’

Jennifer Lawrence is broadening her horizons once again with exciting new projects. A24 has just announced their option of Paul B. Rainey’s graphic novel ‘Why Don’t You Love Me?’ for a feature film adaptation, with Lawrence set to star. Robert Funke, known for creating ‘On Becoming a God in Central Florida,’ will be writing the screenplay.

This announcement follows hot on the heels of Lawrence’s involvement in another upcoming project, ‘The Wives.’ This murder mystery, inspired by ‘Real Housewives,’ will see Lawrence both producing and starring alongside Apple Studios and A24.

A24 has acquired the rights to Rainey’s sci-fi comedy, which delves into the lives of a discontented married couple navigating various challenges in their personal and professional lives. Released in 2023 by Drawn & Quarterly, the novel explores themes of perceived reality and the discovery of alternative possibilities.

Lawrence will be producing the film alongside Justine Ciarrocchi, Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen, Emily Hildner, and A24, with Rainey himself serving as executive producer. This collaboration isn’t Lawrence’s first with A24. They previously worked together on the Oscar-nominated drama ‘Causeway,’ where Lawrence portrayed a military veteran adjusting to civilian life.

With four Oscar nominations under her belt, including a lead actress win for ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ in 2013, Lawrence continues to cement her place in the industry. Her partnership with Apple has also grown, including producing the documentary ‘Bread & Roses,’ which explores the lives of Afghan women under Taliban rule in Kabul.

Robert Funke, who co-created the dark comedy ‘On Becoming a God in Central Florida’ starring Kirsten Dunst, will bring Rainey’s novel to the screen.
