Jennifer Lopez Opens Up: The Writing Advice Ben Affleck Gave Her During Moments of Doubt

Jennifer Lopez is laying it all on the line in her new cinematic creation, ‘This Is Me…Now: A Love Story,’ and she credits her real-life love story with Ben Affleck for giving her the push to make it happen.

During a recent press conference with project director Dave Meyers, the ‘Marry Me’ star shared how Affleck played a crucial role in boosting her confidence during the production. “I was like, ‘I don’t write, I don’t do this.’ He was like, ‘You do, you write, you direct, you produce, you choreograph, you do all the things. Start stepping into that, start owning a little bit of who you are,'” Lopez recalled Affleck telling her.

The power couple, Lopez at 54 and Affleck at 51 rekindled their romance in 2021 and tied the knot in July 2022. Their renewed love story heavily influenced the direction of the project, according to Meyers. He pointed out a specific scene where Lopez takes on the role of a construction worker at a heart factory, noting that it metaphorically reflects the pain she went through during her first breakup with Affleck.

‘This Is Me…Now: A Love Story’ is not just a cinematic endeavour but a musical and visual reimagining of the life events inspiring Lopez’s upcoming album, ‘This Is Me…Now,’ acting as a sequel to her 2002 album, ‘This Is Me…Then.’ The original production features a star-studded cast including Affleck, Post Malone, Fat Joe, Keke Palmer, Trevor Noah and Sofia Vergara.

At the press conference, Lopez shared that the project’s roots lie in the album and the magical and surreal moments she feels in her current life. It’s a glimpse into the personal and artistic journey of an artist embracing her multifaceted talents and love story.

“I hit the studio, poured my heart into this album, and when it was wrapped, I felt there was more to unfold,” Jennifer Lopez shared. Reflecting on her creative journey, she expressed a desire to go beyond traditional boundaries.

Lopez, who funded the ambitious project herself, as per Meyers, sees this endeavour as a pivotal moment in her career. It marks the commencement of a “new chapter” and a significant “turning point” in her life. The 20-year journey exploring questions about love and self-acceptance, particularly as a hopeless romantic, has reached a profound culmination.
