Jennifer Lopez Says Ayo Edebiri Apologised “With Tears in Her Eyes”

Jennifer Lopez recently disclosed that actor Ayo Edebiri expressed remorse to her “with tears in her eyes” after making disparaging remarks about her career. During an episode of the ‘Scam Goddess’ podcast in 2020, Edebiri described Lopez’s career as “one long scam,” implying that she wasn’t genuinely talented and suggesting she relied on deceptive practices.

Edebiri even concurred with host Laci Mosley’s assertion that Lopez “can’t sing.”

Fast forward to a few weeks ago, Edebiri’s comments resurfaced just before her debut hosting gig on ‘Saturday Night Live,’ where Lopez was slated as a musical guest. In a recent interview with Variety, Lopez revealed that Edebiri approached her to apologize before their SNL appearance.

“She was mortified and very sweet,” Lopez recounted. “She came to my dressing room and apologized with tears in her eyes, acknowledging how hurtful her words were.” According to Lopez, Edebiri was impressed with her performance on SNL and genuinely regretted her earlier remarks. “She was just like, ‘I’m so sorry, it was so awful of me,’” Lopez shared.

Despite Edebiri’s apology, Lopez admitted that she’s accustomed to hearing criticism throughout her career and it didn’t deeply affect her.

Edebiri herself addressed the issue during her appearance on SNL, participating in a skit where contestants confronted their past social media posts. Playing a flustered contestant, Edebiri remarked, “It’s wrong to leave mean comments, or post comments just for clout, or run your mouth on a podcast, and you don’t consider the impact because you’re 24 and stupid.”
