Jennifer Lopez's Birthday Plans Take an Unexpected Turn, but She's 'Making the Best of It

Jennifer Lopez is enjoying her summer on the East Coast. While spending more time in the Hamptons and celebrating her birthday without Ben Affleck, a source told PEOPLE, "Her summer isn't exactly what she originally planned, but she's making the best of it. She's always grateful for family time."

Lopez, who turned 55 recently, celebrated over the weekend with a Bridgerton-themed birthday party, followed by an intimate lunch with close friends and family the next day. "She had a great weekend with family and friends," the source said. "She loves entertaining and enjoyed her birthday bash. She was in a happy mood."

Initially, Lopez's summer was supposed to be different. After her Netflix movie ‘Atlas’ topped the streaming service in May, she was scheduled for a ‘This Is Me…’ Live concert tour, which would have taken her to cities like Austin, Dallas, Las Vegas, Miami, Toronto, New York City, and Boston. However, the tour was cancelled, with Live Nation announcing that Lopez was "taking time off to be with her children, family, and close friends."

In her message at the time, Lopez expressed her regret: "I am completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down. Please know that I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t feel that it was absolutely necessary. I promise I will make it up to you and we will all be together again. I love you all so much. Until next time."

Recently, Lopez and Affleck, 51, have been living separately, with sources suggesting they are facing marital strains, though neither has commented publicly. They marked their two-year wedding anniversary on different coasts, with Affleck in Los Angeles.

An insider noted in June that Lopez and Affleck are "focused on their separate lives" this summer and "don’t have any summer plans together."
