Jeremy Allen White Praises Ayo Edebiri's Directorial Debut in 'The Bear' Season 3

At the premiere of ‘The Bear’ season 3 on 25th June, Jeremy Allen White, known for his role as Carmie Berzatto in the FX series, expressed admiration for Ayo Edebiri's directorial debut. Reflecting on her first time behind the camera, White shared with Variety how impressed he was watching Edebiri take on the directorial role.

"It was the best," White recounted. "I wasn't acting on that first day of hers, I was just hanging out on set." Despite Edebiri, who plays his sous chef Sydney Adamu, not formally directing him during scenes, White, 33, praised her for her confident and intuitive direction.

"I can say she did a beautiful job. She was very confident, everyone knows how smart she is," he continued. "She's a beautiful and intuitive actress, and I think she’s a very beautiful and intuitive director as well."

Edebiri herself shared with Deadline that directing her first episode was an emotional experience. "I cried. It was written very beautifully," she recalled of her initial reaction to the script. "I was so moved by it and really touched that Chris [Storer] had me in mind to direct it."

Since ‘The Bear's’ debut in 2022, White and Edebiri's friendship has blossomed both on and off-screen. In a Vanity Fair cover story in June 2024, White emphasized his deep respect for Edebiri as both a person and an artist, highlighting their chemistry both on and off camera.

"We really enjoy each other in life, on camera, and off camera," White shared. "I hope that kind of thing shines through on camera between Carm and Syd." Season 3 of ‘The Bear’  premieres on 27th June on FX and Hulu.
