Jeremy Renner Makes an Unexpected Comeback at People’s Choice Awards

Jeremy Renner made a surprise appearance at the 2024 People’s Choice Awards, helping fellow Marvel star Simu Liu kick off the event over a year after a critical snowplough accident.

After more than 13 months of recovery, Renner, 53, took the stage at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, expressing his gratitude to the fans for their overwhelming support. Walking out to thunderous applause, he shared, “Gotta say, it feels good to be back. This year’s been a heck of a journey, and I’m happy to be here with you, the fans. You guys are the best. You guys really brought this year. You broke records. You turned movies into movements. We heard you all loud and clear, we heard you.”

The actor, also known as the dad of 10-year-old daughter Ava, then introduced the nominees for TV performance of the year. Renner announced Billie Eilish as the winner, and as she accepted her award, he embraced his ‘Avengers’ co-star Tom Hiddleston backstage, who earlier gave him a standing ovation.

Renner spent over two weeks in the hospital undergoing multiple surgeries after the near-fatal snowplough accident on 1st January 2023, resulting in more than 30 broken bones. Reflecting on his recovery, Renner shared last month that he felt “blessed” and described the experience as shedding calluses and feeling more open and sensitive.
