John Cena Wasn’t Actually Naked at The Oscars 2024
John Cena appeared to be all-natural as he presented the award for best costume design. However, Cena had taken precautions to prevent any potential wardrobe malfunctions.
Behind-the-scenes snapshots captured Cena in an Oscars’ hallway, clad in nothing but a modesty pouch to protect his modesty. The pouch was essentially a pair of underwear that provided coverage both in the front and back, ensuring Cena’s private parts remained out of sight. While it may have seemed like Cena was on the verge of a flash, the Oscars wardrobe team made sure that didn’t happen.

Cena took to the stage with only an oversized winner’s envelope to preserve his dignity… and a pair of Birkenstocks. It was a nod to a memorable Oscars moment from the past. “At the 46th Academy Awards in 1974, David Niven was interrupted while introducing Elizabeth Taylor by a nude streaker running across the stage,” Host Jimmy Kimmel recalled as he introduced Cena. “Can you imagine if a nude man ran across the stage today?”
Well… Cena certainly fit the bill, although he wasn’t aiming to become the next Hollywood streaker. The duo joked that Cena was supposed to streak when Kimmel raised the possibility, but Cena backed out at the last minute.
“Honestly, you should feel ashamed right now for suggesting such a tasteless idea,” Cena teased Kimmel, adding, “The male body is not a joke.” Cena then stepped forward with the large presenter’s envelope to reveal the award — which ultimately went to Poor Things — though he struggled to lift the envelope to announce the nominees.
“Costumes… they are so important. Maybe the most important thing there is,” Cena remarked, alluding to his nudity. “I can’t open the envelope.” Kimmel offered assistance and announced the nominations, allowing Cena to remain fully covered.
By the time the nominee montage concluded, Cena was draped in a makeshift toga, seemingly crafted from an Oscars stage curtain and tassel.
