‘John Tucker Must Die’ Sequel Gets Green Light!: Everything to Know

After nearly 18 years since its original release, fans of ‘John Tucker Must Die’ have reason to rejoice as a sequel to the beloved film is officially in the works. The exciting news was confirmed by none other than the original cast members themselves: Jesse Metcalfe, Sophia Bush and Arielle Kebbel, who delighted fans during a panel at Epic Cons Chicago on 24th March.

During the panel, the cast revealed that a script for the sequel is already underway. “I’ve heard rumours of this script — there’s a script,” shared Metcalfe, who portrayed the titular character, John Tucker. “It’s apparently amazing,” he added, expressing his eagerness to be a part of it.

Kebbel, known for her role as overachiever Carrie, further divulged that she is involved in the scriptwriting process, and assured fans that the sequel will involve all of the original cast. As for Metcalfe’s character, Kebbel teased that he “may or may not get a chance to change” his ways, hinting at exciting plot developments.

The conversation took a humorous turn when Metcalfe joked about reprising his memorable scene involving a thong. “Do I get to wear a thong again?” he quipped, to which Kebbel playfully responded, suggesting a potential business venture involving Metcalfe’s character and his infamous underwear.

Bush, who played a pivotal role in the original film, simply expressed her readiness for the sequel, exclaiming, “Ready. To. Go.”

‘John Tucker Must Die,’ released in July 2006, was a commercial success, grossing $68.8 million globally. The film followed the story of John Tucker, portrayed by Metcalfe, as he navigated relationships with three girls from different high schools. Seeking revenge, the scorned trio recruited Kate, played by Brittany Snow, to disrupt John’s life.

For Metcalfe, the film marked his first-ever movie appearance, and he revealed in a previous interview that it’s still the role he gets recognized for the most. He also expressed openness to the idea of a sequel, which now seems to be coming to fruition.
