Johnny Depp is mourning the loss of his former costar. The 61-year-old actor posted a heartfelt tribute on his Instagram Stories for his ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ costar, Tamayo Perry, who tragically died in a shark attack in June.
Depp shared a black-and-white photo of Tamayo, captioning it, “Even though it was some years ago now, I remember Tamayo well. A lovely man, with a huge heart and zest for life…” He also included a message for Tamayo’s wife, “Emilia, I send you all my love and strength. You are in my thoughts.” Depp concluded his post with a link to Tamayo’s GoFundMe page, which had raised $112,643 out of its $200,000 goal at the time of reporting.

Tamayo, who also worked as a lifeguard, passed away at age 49 recently after being fatally injured while surfing off the coast of Oahu, Hawaii, according to the Associated Press. Shayne Enright of the Honolulu Emergency Services Department said in a press conference, “As you can imagine, this is an extremely difficult time for all of us. I ask for your kindness and your patience as we all just try to get through this next hour into these next weeks and months.”
Tamayo also appeared in the 2002 film ‘Blue Crush’ and an episode of ‘Hawaii Five-O’. The fundraising page, organized by his wife Emilia Perry, features a tribute describing Tamayo as a “hero.”
It reads, “We all want to be the hero of our own story… Few of us are able to truly be that hero. Tamayo Perry was, is, and will be forever. He was everyone’s big brother, stern and uncompromising with an infectious and kolohe smile.”
In an update, Emilia wrote, “The amount of love and support received is overwhelming and incredibly humbling.”
