Reflecting on his character, Depp remarked, “I think for someone in that position, and again, some of this stuff resonates for me — not that I’m a king of any sort.”

He elaborated on the complexities of portraying a figure like King Louis XV, who despite his prominence, grappled with a sense of isolation and detachment from the outside world. Depp drew parallels to his own experiences, acknowledging moments where he too has felt disconnected. “So the layers between him and the real world, they start to get thicker and weirder,” he added.

Maïwenn, who co-wrote and directed the film, stars alongside Depp as ‘Jeanne du Barry’, the king’s controversial mistress. The narrative follows du Barry’s ascent from a working-class background to becoming the king’s final official mistress, triggering scandal and resistance within the Court’s elite circles.

Depp expressed his enthusiasm for the U.S. release of ‘Jeanne du Barry’ and the accompanying interview, sharing his excitement on Instagram. He wrote, “Sat down with the delightful Mark Salisbury for a chat about my role as Louis XV in Maïwenn’s ‘Jeanne du Barry’, opening tomorrow for US & Canadian audiences.”
