Johnny Depp Raked in Over $50 Million for a 7-Minute Cameo

Johnny Depp is renowned for his portrayal of eccentric characters, turning them into iconic figures, whether it’s Captain Jack Sparrow in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ series, Edward Scissorhands, or Willy Wonka in ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’.

During the 2000s, Depp reached the pinnacle of his career, and filmmakers were willing to shell out millions to secure him for a role, particularly in fantasy films, even if it meant just a brief appearance. One notable instance is when he received a substantial sum for his part in ‘Alice in Wonderland’.

As one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood, Depp’s versatility and charismatic performances have been key to his success. However, his career took a hit when he faced allegations of domestic abuse from his ex-wife, Amber Heard. This led to Disney reportedly removing him from the role of Captain Jack Sparrow, and he also parted ways with the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ franchise.

As per the report, Johnny Depp earned a remarkable 50 million pounds, approximately 68 million US dollars, for his portrayal of the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’. This amounts to over $9 million for each minute of his screen time, marking one of the highest payouts for a brief appearance in Hollywood.

In 2016, Depp revisited his role in the sequel, ‘Alice Through the Looking Glass’. During the same year, he secured the top spot on Forbes’ list of Hollywood’s Most Overpaid Actors for both 2016 and 2015.

Professionally, Johnny Depp staged a comeback with the period drama ‘Jeanne du Barry’ after successfully winning a defamation case against Amber Heard. The film premiered at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, receiving a seven-minute standing ovation from the audience.

Recently, a movie poster circulated on Facebook, supposedly announcing ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 6’ with the title ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Demons of the Corsair’ and a 2025 release date. However, it turned out to be a disappointing hoax for fans eagerly awaiting the next installment in the franchise.
