‘Joker 2’ Casting Director Praises Lady Gaga: “She’s Going To Blow Your Mind”

Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal in the critically acclaimed film, ‘Joker’, is etched in the minds of audiences as one of the greatest performances of all time. The film excelled in every aspect, including acting, storytelling, and direction.

When the sequel, ‘Joker: Folie À Deux’, starring Lady Gaga, was announced, expectations were sky-high, particularly regarding her performance as Harley Quinn. This was because Margot Robbie’s portrayal of Harley Quinn had been immensely popular and beloved by fans.

However, fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Francine Maisler, the casting director for the movie, is thoroughly impressed by Gaga’s performance. According to a Deadline article published on July 5, Maisler attended the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic. During a Q&A session for Joker: Folie À Deux, she had nothing but praise for the pop icon’s performance.

Maisler shared her admiration, stating, “She’s so good at it, you guys. She’s going to blow your mind. I didn’t suggest Lady Gaga.” She revealed that it was director Todd Phillips’s idea to cast Gaga. Maisler admitted she was surprised by Gaga’s performance, despite being aware of her capabilities from her previous work in A Star Is Born with Bradley Cooper.

Maisler elaborated, saying, “But I thought, ‘Oh, well, that’s kind of in her wheelhouse.’ Something she could do and just be real. But this… Man, she’s good.” She emphasised that Gaga’s performance in ‘Joker: Folie À Deux’ goes beyond what was expected, showcasing her incredible talent.

Discussing the dynamic between Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix, Maisler highlighted that while Phoenix’s performance is mind-blowing, Gaga holds her own. She noted, “And be real — and not just wiped off the screen by what that role is and what the performance is — shows she’s good.” According to the publication, Gaga has teased her unique take on Harley Quinn in the upcoming ‘Joker’ instalment. In an interview, Gaga described her version of Harley Quinn as ‘hers,’ calling it ‘very authentic’ to the movie. She added that she has never done anything like what she has in this film, promising it will be “brand new and really fun.”
