The Grammy win was the crowning achievement of a remarkable year for Mitchell, who returned to the stage at the Newport Folk Festival in July 2022 after a two-decade hiatus. Her performance, recorded and released as the 2023 album, marked a triumphant comeback following a challenging period, including a brain aneurysm in 2015.
Reflecting on her journey, Mitchell admitted, "I'm learning. I'm looking at videos that are on the net to see where I put my fingers, you know. It's amazing what an aneurysm knocks out – how to get out of a chair!... You have to relearn everything." Billy Porter expressed admiration, "We are all better artists because of the lines you dared to cross, Joni Mitchell, you are marvellous."
