Fans of ‘The Bear ‘were in for a surprise when Josh Hartnett made a cameo midway through season 3, and he's giving credit to the show's Chicago home base for keeping it a secret! Hartnett joined the cast as Frank, the new fiancé of Richie's (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) ex-wife Tiffany (Gillian Jacobs).
He revealed to a magazine that he accepted the role "before [he] even read the script. I said yes right away," Hartnett shared, eager to collaborate with ‘The Bear's creator, Chris Storer, who is a longtime friend.

On set, Hartnett praised Storer's directorial precision, noting how much the cast, including Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri, trusts his process. Hartnett also had high praise for Chicago, where the series is filmed, appreciating the city's dedication to preserving the show's secrets.
"I felt like the city of Chicago was really protective of ‘The Bear’, he said. "People there love that show, and it’s like an unwritten rule not to spoil it. No one on the show wants to spoil it either. It's much more fun to have that last-minute reveal."
Hartnett kept his cameo under wraps, only telling his parents and a few close friends who are fans of the show. With a low-key circle and no social media presence, he joked, "Who am I really going to tell?"
Season 3 of the hit FX series follows Carmy (White), Sydney (Edebiri), and Richie as they strive to elevate ‘The Bear’ from a beef stand to a fine-dining establishment, all while trying to stay in business. In addition to Hartnett, the season features notable cameos from John Cena, Jamie Lee Curtis, John Mulaney, Will Poulter, and Olivia Colman.
