Sony Pictures has officially announced that the untitled third installment of the rebooted 'Jumanji' franchise is vacating its original 11th December, 2026, slot in favour of a prime Christmas Day release. This change is a set tactical move to give the blockbuster some much-needed breathing room, not merely a random planning adjustment. By moving to 25th December, Sony is effectively dodging "Dunesday"—the industry-coined term for 18th December, 2026, when both 'Avengers: Doomsday' and 'Dune: Part Three' are scheduled to explode into theaters.
Rather than getting sandwiched between two of the decade's biggest cinematic titans, the 'Jumanji' crew is betting on the "long-tail" success of the holiday week, where family-friendly adventures historically dominate as the "must-see" secondary option once the initial superhero hype has settled.

A Proven Strategy for Franchise Success
This "wait-a-week" strategy is a page taken directly from the franchise's own highly successful playbook. Back in 2017, 'Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle' pulled off a legendary box office feat by opening just days after 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi.'
Jumanji turned out to be an irresistible force of its own, eventually earning over $960 million worldwide, despite many expecting the Jedi to demolish the competition. 'Jumanji: The Next Level,' the film's 2019 follow-up, made over $800 million.
