The jungle is calling once again, but fans will have to wait just a little bit longer to hear the drums. Sony Pictures has officially announced that the untitled third installment of the rebooted 'Jumanji' franchise is vacating its original 11th December, 2026, slot in favour of a prime Christmas Day release. This change is a set tactical move to give the blockbuster some much-needed breathing room, not merely a random planning adjustment. By moving to 25th December, Sony is effectively dodging "Dunesday"—the industry-coined term for 18th December, 2026, when both 'Avengers: Doomsday' and 'Dune: Part Three' are scheduled to explode into theaters.
Rather than getting sandwiched between two of the decade's biggest cinematic titans, the 'Jumanji' crew is betting on the "long-tail" success of the holiday week, where family-friendly adventures historically dominate as the "must-see" secondary option once the initial superhero hype has settled.

A Proven Strategy for Franchise Success
This "wait-a-week" strategy is a page taken directly from the franchise's own highly successful playbook. Back in 2017, 'Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle' pulled off a legendary box office feat by opening just days after 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi.'
Jumanji turned out to be an irresistible force of its own, eventually earning over $960 million worldwide, despite many expecting the Jedi to demolish the competition. 'Jumanji: The Next Level,' the film's 2019 follow-up, made over $800 million. The world established by Chris Van Allsburg and immortalized by Robin Williams in 1995 has been given amazing new life by the current version of the series.

As seen by the franchise's current total earnings of over $2.02 billion, viewers have a voracious desire for the series' brilliant "video game logic" and the chemistry amongst the main characters.
What's in Store for the Final Level?
The previous movie's ending offered us a huge hint: the game's wild animals and systems finally made their way into the real world, even though exact narrative details for the upcoming movie are being kept under wraps. The stakes are expected to be higher than ever in this "reverse-Jumanji" situation. The "Core Four"—Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Dr. Smolder Bravestone, Kevin Hart as Mouse Finbar, Jack Black as Professor Shelly Oberon, and Karen Gillan as Ruby Roundhouse—are all confirmed to return, so fans can relax.

Alongside them are seasoned celebrities like Danny DeVito and Nick Jonas as well as "real world" kids like Alex Wolff, Ser'Darius Blain, Madison Iseman, and Morgan Turner. For what many insiders refer to as the "last level" of this particular plot arc, director Jake Kasdan, who has been in charge since the start, is once again back at the helm. With filming having wrapped in March 2026, the stage is set for a massive holiday showdown that could make this the biggest 'Jumanji' yet.
