Kanye West Believes He “Invented Every Style of Music of The Past 20 Years”

Kid Cudi and Boosie Badazz have weighed in on Kanye West’s recent claim that he “invented every style of music of the past 20 years.”

In a recent interview with Ye and Ty Dolla $ign, conducted by rap veteran Big Boy, the duo discussed their upcoming ‘Vultures’ album trilogy. However, the chat took a turn when West made bold statements about his influence on music over the past two decades. He asserted, “I done invented every style of music of the past 20 years. I created this genre. I created [The] Weeknd’s genre, Trav[is Scott], Drake…”

West also alluded to a new sound he dubbed the “making your own money genre,” emphasizing the importance of bypassing intermediaries in the music industry.

Boosie Badazz, however, had a different take on West’s claims. Responding to a social media post of the interview clip, he remarked, “Not all genres, not every style, not Boosie music! You can’t relate to nothing I rap about r [sic] your music! Nobody listens to Kanye ‘n’ the projects r the trenches! I’m a gon head and say it, ‘My people do not relate to you.'”

Ye fired back at the Louisiana rapper’s critique on his Instagram stories, pointing out that Badazz’s hit single ‘Wipe Me Down’ predated his influence.

Despite West’s assertion, the influence of auto-tune in rap music is a contentious topic. While ‘808s & Heartbreaks’ is considered influential, many credit T-Pain with popularizing auto-tune in the 2000s. The artist notably collaborated with West on the 2007 hit ‘Good Life.’

Social media users also chimed in on the debate, with some acknowledging West’s influence but urging recognition for T-Pain’s contributions.

Kid Cudi, who played a significant role in West’s ‘808s & Heartbreaks’, seemed to indirectly respond to West’s claims. He reposted a screenshot of a Wikipedia page discussing how his sound inspired West’s cathartic album, with West later acknowledging Cudi as an originator of the style.
