Kanye West Wants The Music Business Model on Social Media to Change

In a recent social media post, Kanye West vented his frustrations with the music industry, publicly criticising streaming services for exploiting artists.

Taking to Instagram, Kanye shared a post from someone else highlighting the challenges artists face, stating, “To get quality music, someone has to pay. Streaming services don’t pay well, labels demand more profit, and they wait for artists to go viral.” Kanye also weighed in, adding, “TikTok doesn’t pay well, and touring costs are becoming too high for many artists.”

This comes amidst reports of him facing hurdles in Europe for performing his new album, ‘Vultures 1.’

“Kanye’s European tour plans are hitting a snag,” commented a Twitter user on Instagram. “His recent controversies and reputation are major factors.”

According to an insider speaking to U.S. Sun, “Now, hardly any arena or stadium management companies want him to perform at their venues.” This further complicates Kanye’s touring prospects.

Speculation about Kanye’s mental health has resurfaced, particularly after a tumultuous summer attributed to a manic episode by his family. Recent actions, including his clash with the Grammy committee, fuel concerns about his well-being. Despite valid criticisms of the music industry, Kanye’s confrontational approach risks overshadowing important discussions.

Drawing parallels with pop icons Michael Jackson and Prince, Kanye likens his battle with Universal to their struggles with major labels. Prince famously labelled himself a “Slave” and adopted a symbol as his name to challenge industry control. Similarly, Jackson publicly criticised Sony Records for alleged mistreatment of artists, sparking debate about industry practices.
