Kate Middleton Wears Rarely Seen Ring From Prince William
Kate Middleton made a surprise appearance in a recent video, wearing a sentimental piece of jewellery from Prince William. The Prince and Princess of Wales, both 42, shared a message in support of Team Great Britain as the 2024 Olympics concluded. While Prince William’s rarely-seen beard sparked online chatter, eagle-eyed royal fans might also notice Kate wearing a meaningful promise ring given to her by William during their university days at St. Andrews in the early 2000s.
This rarely-seen ring, a pearl and garnet rose gold promise ring, was a gift from William to Kate long before he proposed with his mother’s sapphire and diamond engagement ring in 2010. The pearl represents William’s June birthday, while the garnet symbolizes Kate’s January birthday. Kate first wore the ring in 2005 on her graduation day from St. Andrews, where she earned her degree in art history.

According to Dress Like a Duchess, Kate wore the ring on her middle finger during her younger years and has occasionally worn it to royal events, such as during visits to Hope House and Great Tower Scout Camp in 2013. The ring is described as symbolizing commitment, fidelity, and a lifelong promise of love.
Kate and William met in 2001 as students at St. Andrews, becoming friends and later, roommates, before starting their relationship. After a brief split in 2007, they reunited and got engaged three years later. The couple married on April 29, 2011, and celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary this year. The garnet stones in the ring are said to represent commitment, while pearls symbolize innocence and purity, adding to the ring’s sentimental value.
An expert from Steven Stone described the ring as “priceless” in Kate’s extensive jewellry collection, due to its emotional significance. Although the Prince and Princess of Wales didn’t attend this year’s Olympic Games in Paris, they expressed their admiration for the athletes in a video message, where Kate wore a casual white shirt with black stripes from Ralph Lauren. William, in a blue polo shirt adorned with the Olympic rings, joined her in congratulating the team, saying, “You’ve been an inspiration to us all.” The couple also shared their pride for Team GB on social media, celebrating the athletes’ dedication and achievements.
While there was speculation that William and Kate might attend the Paris Olympics, the couple has preferred to maintain a low profile this summer, spending private time with their three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
