Katherine Schwarzenegger Shades The Met Gala, What Really Happened?

Katherine Schwarzenegger recently shared her thoughts on the evolving fashion at the Met Gala in a now-expired Instagram Stories post. The New York Times best-selling author, aged 34, reflected on the event’s changes over time. Following this year’s gala on 6th May, Schwarzenegger reposted a photo from her mother Maria Shriver’s Instagram carousel, showcasing a previous year’s gala that Shriver attended.

Schwarzenegger captioned the photo with a nostalgic tone, commenting on the past elegance of the Met Gala compared to recent years. Shriver, aged 68, began her caption reminiscing about her own Met Gala experience in 2001, wearing a lavender boat neck gown with a sheer shawl. Shriver pondered whether they would still turn heads on the red carpet with the same outfits today, ending with a hashtag #metgalaflashback.

The Met Gala, which dates back to 1948, serves as a fundraiser for the Costume Institute and features the opening of its annual exhibit. The event began featuring themes in 1973, starting with ‘The World of Balenciaga.’ This year’s theme, ‘A Garden in Time,’ aligned with the Costume Institute’s exhibit theme, ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.’

The gala’s co-chairs this year included Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, Chris Hemsworth, and Bad Bunny, with over 160 celebrities gracing the red carpet. Zendaya, aged 27, made a striking appearance in a custom Maison Margiela gown by John Galliano, later changing into an off-the-shoulder black gown with a floral headpiece.

Among the evening’s standout looks was Doja Cat’s oversized white T-shirt, cleverly styled to appear soaked and see-through with the use of hair gel. The Grammy winner, aged 28, explained her unconventional choice, expressing a desire to stand out amidst the floral-themed attire.
