Katy Perry Reacts to Kelly Clarkson’s Cover of ‘Wide Awake’

Kelly Clarkson, the powerhouse vocalist and host of ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’, recently delivered a show-stopping performance of Katy Perry’s 2012 hit ‘Wide Awake’ on her popular ‘Kellyoke’ segment. This stripped-down rendition, accompanied solely by a pianist, resonated with fans and even garnered a hilarious reaction from Perry herself.

Clarkson’s cover, released nearly 12 years after the original topped the charts, showcased her exceptional vocal range and ability to breathe new life into established songs. Perry, clearly impressed, took to social media to jokingly concede defeat, commenting “Ok dang I can never sing that again” on a clip of the performance.

This playful exchange highlights the long-standing camaraderie between the two singers. Previously, Clarkson publicly praised Perry’s 2020 single ‘Daisies’, complimenting the music video on social media.  This mutual admiration extends beyond social media interactions.

Clarkson, a former American Idol winner, has covered several of Perry’s songs on ‘Kellyoke’, including ‘The One That Got Away’ and the empowering anthem ‘Roar’.
