Keanu Reeves Joins ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ Cast as The Voice of Shadow

The upcoming ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ movie has made an exciting addition to its voiceover cast with the inclusion of Keanu Reeves. Reeves is set to voice the character Shadow, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, with the news initially breaking on ‘The John Campea Show.’

Shadow, one of the franchise’s iconic hedgehogs, brings a darker and more sinister vibe compared to his counterparts, such as the blue Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz), the yellow Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey), and the red Knuckles the Echidna (Idris Elba). Speaking of Knuckles, Elba’s character is set to star in his spinoff series premiering on 26th April on Paramount+.

The character Shadow first made his appearance in Sega’s Sonic video games back in 2001’s ‘Sonic Adventure 2.’ Created by Professor Gerald Robotnik, Shadow’s presence adds an intriguing dynamic to the Sonic universe. In the ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ big-screen adaptations, Professor Robotnik is portrayed by Jim Carrey.

At CinemaCon 2024, attendees got a glimpse of Carrey reprising his role as the deranged professor in ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3.’ A teaser showcased his involvement in the creation of Shadow, setting the stage for an epic battle between Shadow and Sonic.

Returning to the Sonic franchise are director Jeff Fowler and live-action actors James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, Tika Sumpter as Maddie Wachowski and Tom Butler as Commander Walters. ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2,’ released in April 2022, became the highest-grossing video game movie ever in North America, surpassing its predecessor.

Fans can catch ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ in theatres on 20th December 20.
