Keith Richards Marks 40th Anniversary With Heartwarming Wedding Photo
Keith Richards and his wife Patti Hansen continue to share a strong and enduring connection. The lead guitarist and songwriter for The Rolling Stones, who recently celebrated his 80th birthday, marked his 40th wedding anniversary with Hansen by posting a heartfelt photo on Instagram.
The picture captures the couple cutting a celebratory cake after their wedding, with Richards donning a tuxedo and Hansen, the model and actress, wearing a satin, short-sleeve wedding dress against an ocean backdrop.
Richards expressed his love for Hansen in the caption, saying, “For Patricia, Happy 40th Anniversary! I love you. Keith🖤.” The couple has been together since 1979 when they first met at Studio 54 on Hansen’s 23rd birthday. Their romance officially began nine months later when Mick Jagger’s then-girlfriend Jerry Hall invited Hansen to Keith’s 36th birthday.
Throughout their relationship, Richards creatively expressed his feelings for Hansen, often making mixtapes adorned with beautiful drawings. According to Hansen, “Keith was constantly making me mixtapes, and he would do beautiful drawings on them. That was his method of communication.”
She mentioned having saved thousands of those tapes, along with collages featuring photos and notes written in Richards’ blood. Despite the unusual approach, Hansen added, “It looks disgusting when it dries, but he loves the colour red.”
In his autobiography ‘Life,’ Keith Richards shared a 1980 journal entry about meeting Patti Hansen, expressing his astonishment at finding a woman he considered a miracle. He described her as the most beautiful specimen in the world, emphasizing that it wasn’t just her physical beauty but also her mind and joy of life that captivated him.
Richards acknowledged the unlikely connection, stating, “She thinks this battered junkie is the guy she loves.”

In December 2022, the couple celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary and Richards’ 79th birthday by recreating the kiss from their 1983 nuptials, with Hansen wearing the same dress from their wedding day.
Reflecting on their enduring relationship in a 2010 interview, Hansen emphasized the common values that have kept their marriage strong. She acknowledged that, like any marriage, they faced challenges, but overall, they share similar morals and backgrounds, both coming from working-class families.
Keith Richards and Patti Hansen are parents to two children, Theodora Richards and Alexandra Richards. Additionally, Richards has three children with model Anita Pallenberg: sons Marlon Leon Sundeep Richards, Dandelion Angela Richards, and Tara Jo Jo Gunne Richards, who tragically passed away from sudden infant death syndrome two months after birth.
