Kelly Clarkson is Enjoying Single Life: “I Never Wanted to Get Married”

Kelly Clarkson isn’t in any rush to return to the dating scene. As a single mum to her 9-year-old daughter, River Rose and 7-year-old son, Remington Alexander (shared with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock), the 41-year-old singer has her hands full, especially after making the move from Los Angeles to New York City for the fifth season of her popular talk show.

With a focus on her kids, family, friends, and thriving career, Clarkson acknowledges that she has a lot on her plate, and it’s all working out beautifully. The songs on her latest album, ‘Chemistry,’ which recently snagged a Grammy nomination for ‘Best Pop Vocal Album,’ were penned during the challenging period of her nearly seven-year marriage with Blackstock, her former manager.

The couple separated in 2020, and their divorce was finalized in 2022 after extended disputes over custody and spousal support.

Reflecting on the complexities of love, Clarkson shares, “I’ve always known that love is hard.” For her, love comes with the looming presence of sadness, acknowledging that it’s not always eternal. Despite the challenges, she sees growth in facing the difficult aspects of love and relationships. While Clarkson is open to meeting someone new, she does not envision walking down the aisle again.

“No. I never wanted to get married the first time,” she asserts. The decision to marry initially was influenced by her ex-husband’s background and values. Clarkson, having experienced divorces in her family, prefers not to put too much emphasis on marriage. For the sake of her kids, she firmly states, “I definitely would never even think about it until they’re out of my house.”

And when it comes to the world of dating, Clarkson doesn’t hold back. “Dating sucks. It’s so awkward,” she laughs. Having been single until the age of 30, she acknowledges her proficiency in the art of being unattached. She candidly expresses her criteria for a potential partner, emphasizing the importance of someone who brings their own life to the table without needing anything from her.

In her view, true romance lies in saying, “I want you, but I don’t need anything.” Right now, Clarkson is content and enjoying the present moment.
