Kelly Rowland Opens Up About Cannes Red Carpet Confrontation With Security

Kelly Rowland is addressing the recent incident that sparked controversy during her appearance at the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. Following a widely circulated video showing Rowland engaged in a tense exchange with a security guard at the premiere of Marcello Mio, she provided her perspective in an interview with the Associated Press at the amfAR Cannes Gala.

Rowland expressed firmness in her stance regarding the altercation, stating, “The woman knows what happened. I know what happened. I have a boundary, and I stand by those boundaries, and that is it.” She further elaborated on her experience, highlighting disparities in treatment, stating, “And there were other women that attended that carpet who did not quite look like me, and they didn’t get scolded or pushed off or told to get off. I stood my ground, and she felt like she had to stand hers, but I stood my ground.”

The incident unfolded on the staircase of the Palais des Festivals, where Rowland and the security guard became engaged in a confrontation. Despite intervention attempts by Rowland’s companions, the guard persisted in directing them along the carpet.

Kelly Rowland’s recent cinematic endeavour includes her role in Tyler Perry’s ‘Mea Culpa’, which premiered on Netflix in February. Reflecting on her participation in the erotic legal thriller, Rowland admitted feeling initially intimidated by the script’s content.

However, she embraced the challenge, citing encouragement from a friend who emphasized the importance of facing fears. Rowland praised the support of her co-star Trevante Rhodes and the guidance of Tyler Perry throughout the filming process, acknowledging the experience as a blessing.
