Kesha has shared that she plans to re-record her debut single, ‘TiK ToK,’ once she gains legal rights. The pop star took to X (formerly Twitter) to reflect on the 15-year-old track that launched her into the spotlight.
In a heartfelt post, Kesha expressed her pride in ‘TiK ToK,’ noting how the song still brings her joy even after all these years. “’TiK ToK’ was the first single that I put into this world that had my voice and my name credited!!!!” she wrote. “I remember making it fun and happy because that’s how I felt and wanted others to feel. What I’m so proud of is that’s how this song still makes me feel, through it all, and those are emotions I want all of us to connect to.”

Kesha went on to describe the song as a snapshot of her younger self—naive, wild, and playful. Now, however, she feels the need to protect that side of herself fiercely. “The world has changed so much and so have I. I absolutely love the new lyric change… I will re-record it when I have legal rights to!” she continued. The revised lyrics, she explained, better reflect her growth and the significant shifts that have occurred since the song’s original release.
The lyric change in question occurred during a surprise performance at Coachella 2024 with René Rapp, where Kesha altered the song’s opening line from “Wake up in the morning feeling like P Diddy” to “Wake up in the morning like f*ck P Diddy.” This change has been embraced by fans, especially given the recent controversies surrounding the hip-hop mogul.
