Kesha Reacts to Katy Perry Working With Dr Luke on ‘Woman’s World’

Kesha has shared her thoughts on the news that Katy Perry has once again teamed up with Dr. Luke, the producer she accused of emotional abuse and s*xual assault in a lawsuit that lasted a decade. This week, Perry announced her return to the music scene with a new single, ‘Woman’s World,’ set to release on July 11.

Fans were quick to notice that Dr Luke was listed as a co-producer, a fact later confirmed by Rolling Stone through a source at Capitol Records. Perry has a history of working with Dr Luke on some of her most famous tracks like ‘I Kissed A Girl,’ ‘California Gurls’ and ‘Dark Horse.’ However, this collaboration stirred controversy due to his long-standing legal battle with Kesha.

Following Kesha’s lawsuit against him, Dr Luke denied all allegations and countered by suing her, claiming she breached their recording contract and fabricated the rape accusations to escape the deal. During the proceedings, Kesha alleged that Perry was also a victim of Dr. Luke’s abuse, a claim Perry vehemently denied. A judge later ruled that Kesha had defamed Dr. Luke by suggesting as much.

In 2018, Perry opened up about feeling “pressured” to support Kesha and admitted that she felt like “Luke was using me as a pawn” to prove his innocence. She expressed frustration with both parties and noted that Dr Luke did not work on her 2017 album ‘Witness,’ as she did not want to appear to be taking sides.

When the news of Perry’s renewed collaboration with Dr. Luke broke, Kesha responded with “lol” on Twitter, which many took as a reaction to the announcement. Last December, reports surfaced that Perry was preparing to release her “most personal” music to date in 2024, with plans for a world tour also in the works.

Kesha and Dr Luke’s legal battle concluded last summer with a settlement reached just a month before the trial was set to begin. Kesha has continued to stand by her original accusations against Dr. Luke.

Earlier this month, Kesha performed her first show since parting ways with Dr Luke’s Kemosabe label, headlining West Hollywood Pride at OutLoud Fest. On stage, she proclaimed, “This is my first show as a free motherf**king woman. Anybody else feeling free as f*ck tonight?”
