Kim Kardashian Loses 100,000 Instagram Followers After Taylor Swift’s ‘thanK you aIMee’

Kim Kardashian has experienced a significant drop in her Instagram followers, losing more than 100,000 since Taylor Swift released a new track, ‘thanK you aIMee,’ that some fans interpret as a dig at Kardashian.

In Swift’s recent double album release, titled ‘The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology’, there’s a track named ‘thanK you aIMee’. The song’s title, with its capitalised letters spelling out ‘KIM’ and its lyrics referring to a “bronze, spray-tanned” high school bully, have sparked speculation among fans about its connection to Swift’s ongoing feud with Kardashian.

Although neither party has confirmed or addressed this speculation, Kardashian’s Instagram follower count dropped from 364.3 million to 363 million over the weekend. Fans of Swift, known as Swifties, have been leaving comments on Kardashian’s page related to the song.

The lyrics of ‘thanK you aIMee’ describe how Swift was positively influenced by her experiences with her bully, with the chorus expressing, “All that time you were throwin’ punches, I was buildin’ somethin’ / And I can’t forgive the way you made me feel / Screamed, ‘F*ck you, Aimee’ to the night sky as the blood was gushin’ / But I can’t forget the way you made me heal.”

The relationship between Swift and Kardashian has been under public scrutiny since 2016 when Kardashian defended her then-husband Kanye West’s mention of Swift in his song ‘Famous.’ West’s lyrics included calling Swift “that b*tch” and suggesting they had had s*xual relations. Kardashian claimed that Swift had approved the lyrics, and she even released footage of a phone call between Swift and West discussing similar lyrics.

However, Swift later stated that the recording was made “illegally” and “edited.” Kardashian countered this in an interview with GQ magazine, saying, “She totally knew that that was coming out. She wanted to all of a sudden act like she didn’t.”

The fallout from this disagreement led to online abuse towards Swift, with hashtags like #TaylorSwiftIsOverParty and the use of snake emojis aimed at her circulating on social media. Swift addressed the impact of this in her December 2023 ‘Time Person of the Year’ interview, revealing it took a severe toll on her mental health.

After the dispute with Kardashian and West and the subsequent online hate, Swift took a break from releasing music, having just won the Grammy ‘Album Of The Year’ award for ‘1989.’ When she returned with ‘Reputation,’ many fans saw it as a response to the ordeal, with its imagery, music videos and tour design heavily featuring serpents. Fans interpreted this as Swift reclaiming the ‘snake’ label that had been used against her online.
