Kim Kardashian Meets Kamala Harris at the White House for Criminal Justice Reform Talks

More than four years after her initial visit to meet with former President Donald Trump, Kim Kardashian returned to the White House.

On Thursday, 25th April the 43-year-old star of ‘The Kardashians’ participated in a roundtable discussion alongside Vice President Kamala Harris, White House public engagement director Steve Benjamin, and a group of recently pardoned former inmates. The focus of the meeting was on criminal justice reform.

At the start of the session, Harris commended Kardashian for her advocacy efforts on behalf of prisoners in the United States.

“I want to thank Kim for your advocacy and for using your platform in a way that has elevated the importance of discussing and committing to second chances,” Harris said in a video of the meeting shared by the White House on YouTube.

Throughout the discussion, Kardashian and Harris delved into the SKIMS founder’s previous endeavours in lobbying Trump to grant clemency to incarcerated individuals. Kardashian gained widespread attention in 2018 when she successfully advocated for the pardon of Alice Marie Johnson, a woman from Alabama who received a life sentence in the 1990s for a nonviolent drug offence.

She continued her efforts, advocating for the clemency of other inmates who were either wrongfully convicted or received excessively harsh sentences, including those on death row.

Harris also addressed her desire to reduce or pardon sentences for specific offences, particularly marijuana-related charges. Additionally, Kardashian shared how her advocacy work inspired her to pursue a legal career.

“It was actually in this very room years ago during my first clemency meeting that I felt inspired to embark on a journey,” Kardashian revealed. “At the time, I had limited knowledge, but I was motivated to attend law school and expand my education to explore how I could contribute.”

In May 2019, Kardashian disclosed her intentions to study for the bar exam, following the path of her late father Robert Kardashian, who famously represented O.J. Simpson in the 1995 murder trial of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. By December of the same year, she announced her successful completion of the “baby bar” exam.
