‘Kung Fu Panda 4’ Releases Trailer And Plot Details: We Are Getting a New Villain!

The ‘Kung Fu Panda’ series has been a jackpot for DreamWorks Animation and it’s not hard to see why. The first three films are gems in the animation world, crafting a vast universe with heroes and villains that stick with you.

It’s been a good seven years since the lovable Dragon Warrior Po, voiced by Jack Black, graced our screens, but get ready for a cinematic treat because ‘Kung Fu Panda 4’ is hitting theatres in March 2024.

In this installment, Po’s on his grandest adventure yet. Picture this – he ventures into the bustling city to scout a new Dragon Warrior before he hangs up his warrior boots to become the Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace. Classic Po, right? But hold on, the plot thickens as he stumbles upon a formidable new foe, the Chameleon, played by the talented Viola Davis.

To tackle this threat, Po teams up with the slick and quick-witted thief, Zhen, portrayed by Awkwafina. Throw in an Oscar winner like Ke Huy Quan as the leader of the Den of Thieves and Ian McShane reprising his role as the infamous villain Tai Lung and you’ve got a star-studded lineup.

The just-released trailer is a feast for long-time fans, but according to director Mike Mitchell and producer Rebecca Huntley, there’s much more beneath the surface. We had a chat with them to spill the tea on what to expect – from the return of fan-favourite characters to the evolution of animation since ‘Kung Fu Panda 3’.

They even dished on the excitement of having young animators, who practically grew up with the first two films, working on the latest chapter.

Jack Black, the man behind Po, treated fans on Instagram, confirming the addition of the powerhouse Viola Davis as the Chameleon. The clip shows Black FaceTiming Davis, who expresses her “super excitement” to take on the role of the shape-shifting character.

Now, let’s talk about the plot. Po, voiced by Black, is chosen to become the Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace and needs to locate and train a new Dragon Warrior. But here’s the catch – a powerful sorceress, the Chameleon, capable of resurrecting defeated villains, stands in his way. Alongside Black, the film brings back familiar voices like Ian McShane, Bryan Cranston, James Hong, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen, David Cross and Lucy Liu.

Prepare yourselves for the fourth edition, making its way to cinemas on 8th March 2024.
