Lea Seydoux Thinks Being a Female Actor in Europe is Easier Than in Hollywood

In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, Léa Seydoux, known for her roles in ‘Dune: Part Two’ and ‘No Time To Die,’ shared her thoughts on the differences between being a female actor in Hollywood versus Europe. The Paris-born star highlighted the challenges she perceives in the American film industry compared to the more welcoming environment in Europe.

Seydoux, who began her acting career in France in the 2000s, expressed her views candidly, stating, “The industry in America, I find it harsh on women. It’s hard for women to age.” She emphasized the economic pressure in Hollywood, where ageing actresses often face challenges in maintaining their careers. Seydoux also noted the rigid standards and the pressure to conform to certain expectations prevalent in American cinema.

Contrastingly, Seydoux feels that European cinema offers her more freedom and flexibility as an actress. “I have more freedom because I’m a European actress, which suits me,” she remarked. She stressed her preference for enjoying her craft rather than conforming to industry norms. Seydoux highlighted the importance of the system adapting to accommodate diverse talents rather than the other way around.

Discussing the sexualization of James Bond and his female counterparts, Seydoux offered nuanced insights. While acknowledging the spy’s status as a sexual object, she challenged stereotypes and emphasized the need for authentic and multifaceted portrayals of women in cinema.
