Liam Cunningham Reflects on Young Cillian Murphy’s Talent

‘The Game of Thrones’ actor Liam Cunningham remembers working with the great Cillian Murphy with fondness, especially in light of Murphy’s recent Oscar win for ‘Best Actor’ in ‘Oppenheimer’. In several films, including ‘The Tale of Sweety Barrett,’ ‘Breakfast on Pluto,’ and ‘The Wind That Shakes the Barley,’ the two Irish actors have appeared together on screen.

In an interview with Miriam for RTÉ’s Sunday, Cunningham praised Murphy’s ability, remembering their early days of working together and noting his development as an actor. Praising Murphy’s adaptability, Cunningham pointed out how he had changed from their early collaborations to his most recent Oscar-winning role in ‘Oppenheimer.’

He went so far as to predict Murphy’s Oscar win in a podcast with Eddie Jordan from the previous year. Cunningham listed actors like Andrew Scott, Paul Mescal, Jessie Buckley, Saoirse Ronan, Gabriel Byrne, and Liam Neeson to highlight the abundance of Irish talent in the business.

This conversation regarding Murphy’s skill comes after disclosures from Pat Kiernan, his former instructor. Although Kiernan initially saw Murphy’s potential as low, he eventually acknowledged Murphy’s intelligence and commitment to his work.

During his Oscar acceptance speech, Murphy acknowledged his Irish ancestry with pride and dedicated his prize to all peacemakers across the globe. Seven accolades were given to “Oppenheimer” in the meantime, including Best Picture and Best Director for Christopher Nolan.

In related news, Murphy’s return as Tommy Shelby in the upcoming TV series film adaptation has been confirmed by Steven Knight, the creator of ‘Peaky Blinders’.
