‘Lilo & Stitch’ Live-Action Remake: Everything You Need to Know
It’s been over two decades since Disney’s ‘Lilo & Stitch’ first graced theatres, becoming an enduring classic cherished by both children and adults. Initially, Mike Van Waes penned the screenplay for the live-action adaptation, but Chris Kekaniokalani Bright later revised it before filming commenced. Jon M. Chu was initially in discussions to direct the film, but due to other commitments, Dean Fleischer Camp ultimately took on the directorial role.
The new adaptation features Maia Kealoha as Lilo, Sydney Elizabeth Agudong as Nani, and Kaipot Dudoit as David Kawena. Notably, Dudoit was cast after the original actor for Nani’s love interest, Kahiau Machado, was replaced following the discovery of past controversial social media posts. Joining the cast are Zach Galifianakis as Jumba, Billy Magnussen as Pleakley, and Courtney B. Vance as Cobra Bubbles bringing to life some of the beloved characters from the original.

While most of the remake will be live-action, the iconic character Stitch will be brought to life through computer-generated imagery. This CGI creation will stand alongside real actors portraying his fellow extraterrestrial companions, including Jumba, Pleakley, and Cobra Bubbles. The story remains true to the original, centring on the unique bond formed between Lilo and Stitch, an alien engineered for destruction who finds a new sense of belonging with Lilo.
The live-action adaptation promises to capture the heartwarming essence of the original film, highlighting themes of family and friendship. Fans of the original can look forward to seeing their favourite scenes and characters come to life in a new format, blending live-action with cutting-edge CGI.
With a talented cast and a dedicated production team, the remake aims to introduce ‘Lilo & Stitch’ to a new generation while paying homage to the beloved animated classic. The anticipation for the film’s release continues to grow, as audiences eagerly await to see how the cherished story has been reimagined for the modern era.
This live-action revival is set to rekindle the magic of ‘Lilo & Stitch’, bringing its timeless charm and heartfelt narrative to the big screen once again, promising a nostalgic yet fresh experience for viewers of all ages.
