Liza Minnelli Declares She’s “Still Loving, Still Kicking, Still Creating”
The legendary entertainer and EGOT recipient is the focus of the new documentary, ‘Liza: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story’, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. The film offers an intimate look at Minnelli’s life and career, capturing her unique voice and perspective.
In a statement, Minnelli expressed her gratitude to Tribeca for screening the documentary, which she created as a gift for her family, friends, and fans. Reflecting on her lifelong relationship with the spotlight, she humorously noted, “Bonjour Paris… Hiya Kids, I’ve often said the day I was born I popped outta Mama and the press took a picture.”

Minnelli’s mother, Judy Garland, was an iconic figure during Hollywood’s Golden Age, while her father, Vincent Minnelli, was an acclaimed director. She acknowledged the relentless public fascination with her life, often filled with fabrications, and emphasised her desire to set the record straight with this film.
Minnelli mentioned that her sister, Lorna Luft, makes a brief appearance in the documentary. She also shared that she and Luft decided not to watch the tribute from the audience, highlighting the personal nature of the project.
Expressing her hopes for the documentary, Minnelli said, “I hope you love it. If you don’t, keep it to yourself…Ha! It shows my history and my life today and is only the beginning of renewing this phase of new ways to create at the ripe old age of 78! I don’t feel a day is over.” She shared her thoughts on ageing and creativity, revealing her excitement for the future.
Ahead of her 78th birthday, Minnelli spoke to a magazine about her gratitude for the love and good wishes she received. She humorously admitted, “I wish I knew how to act my age. But kids guess what, I have never been this damn old! Just keep going baby, that’s the secret!”
